Away from the Piano

  • Listen to and sing contrasting songs in different tonalities & meters

  • Listen to and chant rhythms in duple and triple meter.

  • Engage in movement activities to internalize the beat and rhythm.

 

Piano Song Preparation

  • Listen to a song from Keyboard Games A book.

  • Engage in various movement activities to better understand the pulse of the song.

  • Chant the rhythms of the song to reinforce understanding.

  • Look at the map of the piano song (visual guide) and consider the keys needed and

finger placement.

 

At the Piano

  • Learn how to approach the keys and play with good posture.

  • Students take turns playing the song while others observe.

  • Encourage attentive listening and peer feedback.

 

Improvisation

  • Improvise a melody using ideas or rhythms from the learned song or those explored in class.

  • Explore freely while maintaining rhythmic patterns learned in class.

  • Experiment with different tempos and dynamics to add expression to the music.
